Epson Launches New SD-10 Digital Colour Spectrophotometer
Epson has recently launched its very own Digital Colour Spectrophotometer - a highly accurate, compact, and affordable spectrophotometer. It is battery powered and comes equipped with a precision MEMS Fabry-Pérot tunable filter. The SD-10 is small enough to fit in the palm of your hands or pocket. The brand new innovation has helped it win the Good Design Best 100 Award 2021 recently.
The SD-10 spectrophotometer can be linked to your smart device to manage colour information for smoother and more precise printing. Being portable, it allows users to measure colours anytime anywhere.
With its main aim to solve colour matching problems in a wide range of design-related work - including the signage display industry. More often than not, there are issues around accurate colour matching when producing printed matter, mainly corporate logo colours. The SD-10 is able to solve colour accuracy problems that were until now, the work of a specifically trained and experienced operator.

With an easy-to-read LCD screen, users can easily measure colours and convert them into data with the SD-10. With a bluetooth function, the SD-10 can also be paired to a smart device through the Epson spectrophotometer application which is very easy to use even for those who are new to colour measurements. Wired or wireless connection to a PC is also possible.
The SD-10 measures colour quickly and accurately by using 9 light sources that are arranged in the formation of a ring. Time required for colour matching is reduced as users are able to obtain accurate results without picking up the uneven shape of the media surface.
In addition, the devices can also be utilised on media with uneven surfaces such as cloth, and the results of the colour management is not affected by the external environment.
The device measures at 35 x 80 x 80mm and weighs only 190g. This compact design makes it easy to carry around to meetings and utilisation at places such as construction sites.
Since the SD-10 has a built in battery and is easily rechargeable with a USB-C charging cable - making it very easy to handle.
When utilising the SD-10 with the "Epson Spectrometer" application on a smartphone, the application will display the numerical values measure by the device as a colour picker. In addition to being able to compare approximate colours and numerical values, users can compare the colour differences between the 2 measured colours and display the differences numerically.
In its utilisation with the application, the app identifies similar colours of measured colours, colour scheme examples and complementary colours, and similar PANTONE® colours.
