What Is Colour Management?

Colour management in production workflow attempts to match the required colour as accurately as possible among different device - given a set of ICC profiles and workflow software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or a Raster Image Processor (RIP). Colour management is important in order to maintain accurate and consistent colour outputs between client and user. Colour management strives for consistency, calibration, characterization, and conversion.

Tools of the trade such as a spectrophotometer can be very costly and inconvenient to utilize due to the need for a specifically trained and experienced operator, and its not the easiest thing to carry around.
